Ron Sanderson's Biography
1944 -1994
Ron Sanderson was born in the park district in January 1944. He grew
up on Skye Edge Road with his parents Lily and George and his two
sisters, Pat and Janet.
He attended Manor Lodge Primary and First School and went on to
Hurlfield Boys Comprehensive. In 1959 he won a scholarship to Sheffield
College of arts and crafts. Ron Joined his father in the steel works
as a Smither but still attended college in the evenings. He was
a talented artist. He had the ability to see something once, go
away and draw the picture exactly as he saw it, but his first love
of course was his photography.

Ron photographed many parts of his beloved
city and people in the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s.
He would walk many miles taking pictures of ordinary people and
their everyday lives.
His abstract pictures always had a concept and an underlying meaning
that only Ron knew about. However in his work lives the magic that
he saw in people and places, a special alchemy that transformed
the mundane into a powerful visual message through a lens.

Trying to figure out his concept and seeing one for yourself is
what makes his work so interesting.
In the mid seventies he achieved one of his ambitions, to have his
work displayed in the cities Graves Art Gallery. This (a one man
exhibition) led to his work being shown all over the country.
He continued to photograph Sheffield changes throughout his career
until his death in 1994 to cancer.
Ron’s work on this website is some of the finest photography
you will ever see. An artist working in his prime. His memory will
live on |
